Tre Rane Restaurant (FI)
A few kilometers from Florence, immersed in the beauty of Chianti and the Tuscan landscapes, the Tre Rane restaurant at Tenuta Poggio Casciano embodies a refined hospitality that gracefully interprets the best products of Tuscany.
The property, part of the 6 Ruffino estates that extend across the most prestigious wine-growing areas of Tuscany, brings with it a fascinating history that extends from the times of the ancient Romans to the present day.
Completely restored in a contemporary key, while keeping its Renaissance charm intact, the beautiful estate hosts, in addition to the restaurant inaugurated in 2019, a boutique hotel, Casa Ruffino, a historic cellar where you can discover the most iconic wines of the Maison, including the Riserva Ducale produced for the Duca D’Aosta since 1927, or the great Supertuscan reds such as Alauda and Modus Primo, all available for purchase in the adjacent Enoteca Ruffino.
The design represents the union of beauty and functionality and proves to be an illuminating metaphor to describe the Ruffino world.
Tenuta Poggio Casciano was the subject of a high-impact restoration and restyling project by B-Arch architecture studio, which focused on the passion for Italian design and the valorization of the historical memory of the brand in a contemporary key.
Various elements have been inserted into the environments with the aim of arousing a pleasant sense of conviviality, from the design choices to the palette of warm and precious colors which, in a play of shapes, paths and soft lights.
The name of the restaurant takes us back to Leonardo da Vinci‘s time, in the second half of the fifteenth century, when the Renaissance genius decided to open an eatery on the Ponte Vecchio together with his friend Sandro Botticelli. The legendary inn was called, precisely, Le Tre Rane.
The idea that cooking could combine the concepts of beauty and goodness pushed the two artists to embark on this gastronomic adventure. The idea thus became the precious common thread that links the Ruffino project to the most authentic Tuscan history, made of art, excellence and extraordinary wines.
Enriched with fragrant bouquets of always fresh flowers, architecture books, artworks by the great masters of Italian design, from Ginori ceramics to iconic pieces by Gio Ponti, the internal room is illuminated by enormous windows overlooking the marvelous vineyards of the estate. The menu reinvents traditional Tuscan cuisine, using local raw materials and offering innovative dishes.
The fish of the Tuscan archipelago, the famous game from the Chianti area, Maremma cheeses and dairy products, the garlic of the Val di Chiana, are just some of the excellences proposed and enhanced by the magnificent Ruffino wines and the DOP Extra Virgin Olive Oil produced on the Santedame estate, on the southern slopes of the Conca d’Oro del Chianti.
The suggestive external loggia is perfect for a summer lunch or a candlelit dinner with a view of the rows of vineyards that parade as far as the eye can see, outlining the extraordinary landscapes of the surrounding area.
The Secret
The menu of Le Tre Rane was written backwards since it was Leonardo himself, notoriously left-handed, who was responsible for drawing it up on a daily basis, enriching it with drawings by his friend Botticelli to allow even less educated customers to read it.
