Founded in 1877 by Ilario and Leopoldo Ruffino, the famous Tuscan wine company has embodied the dream of bringing “the ideal wine” to tables around the world for 140 years, even becoming the official court supplier of the Duke of Aosta in 1890.

The long history of the estate begins in Roman times; over the years the property developed into a productive farm and elegant residential villa where, since 1500, artists and prominent personalities of the time used to stay, such as Andrea Della Robbia, illustrious ceramists and sculptors, and Giovan Vettorio Soderini, agronomist and author of the first treatise on Sangiovese.
Surrounded by hectares of vineyards and olive groves, with its romantic park filled with centuries-old trees, Tenuta Poggio Casciano today shines with new light thanks to the intervention of B-arch architecture studio which, between brushstrokes of color and inserts of works of art & design by the masters such Ginori and Gio Ponti, has given it an elegant contemporary twist.
Oenological history and contemporary design dialogue in the project which includes the wine shop, where you can purchase all the iconic Ruffino wines, the elegant Le Tre Rane restaurant, which offers the best local products, and the evocative underground wine cellar open to visits and tastings led by Ruffino Ambassadors.
Upstairs, we find two beautiful private tasting rooms which, looking like classy lounges, allow guests to choose between multiple tasting itineraries of exceptional wines, such as the Riserva Ducale & the Riserva Ducale Oro and the Modus Primo.
Tenuta Poggio Casciano offers also new tailor-made Tour&Tasting experiences to discover and taste the production of some of the most iconic Ruffino wines, including limited productions and old vintages.

The Secret
The name Poggio Casciano derives from “Cassius”, a Roman centurion who received the property as a war prize in exchange for the commitment to start the cultivation of vines and olive trees as an example of Mediterranean civilization.
